Following the private sewers transfer that happened in October 2011, United Utilities are now responsible for maintaining many thousands of km of extra wastewater pipes, but not all pipes transferred to us. If you have a blockage on the internal plumbing (toilets, sinks etc), on the building drainage (guttering and downpipes) or on an underground pipe in your garden or under your drive that only serves your house then it is your responsibility to get this fixed.

You can find a local plumber or drainage contractor online or in the yellow pages or local press. If the blockage is on a pipe which serves some of your neighbours aswell as your house, or is on a pipe located outside your garden or drive which serves just your property then it is most likely United Utiltiies responsibility to clear it.
