An approved United Utilities contractor will carry out a simple survey and decide on the most suitable place for the meter. Our preferred location for meter installations is inside your property. We are using new technology which will allow us to take a meter reading without having to enter your premises.

The meter must be fitted at a point where it will register all the water used at your property on the incoming supply pipe. You will need to give us access to the incoming supply pipe to allow us to install the meter. This may require the removal of any obstruction to the pipework (e.g. wood panelling, white goods) to ensure a successful installation.

If we can install the meter inside your property, but you would prefer the meter to be located in the footpath, then, if we are able to do this, you will need to pay the difference in cost.

Please note that the location of meter is at the discretion of United Utilities and in most cases we will need to make a second visit to fit your meter.
